Mental health first aid fills knowledge gap

“Traditional first aid courses are all about the body. Yet we’re more likely to encounter someone with a mental health problem than someone needing CPR.”

At the mention of first aid, most of us think of resuscitation or dealing with injuries or burns. But what should you do if you encounter someone having a panic attack, behaving aggressively, or even  appearing suicidal?

Every year, more than 1 in 5 Australians over 16 experience mental illness.
